What are the benefits for the public and the authorities?

For the enforcement officer:

Officers are equipped with modern electronic devices that enable them to digitally record the details of the offence and transmit them directly to the National Processing Centre (CNT) in Rennes, reliably and securely.

For the person issued with a fine:

Electronic tickets replace the paper letter-card formerly handed over in person or left on the windscreen of a vehicle. It may be replaced by a simple information notice. However, this is optional and absence of such a notice does not invalidate the proceedings. In all cases, the fixed penalty notice or fixed fine for a misdemeanour notice is sent to the offender's home, either:

• in the case of a fine issued WITH the vehicle being stopped to the postal address or email address (if the person wants to receive their fixed penalty notices electronically) as provided by the person themselves,
• in the case of an offence committed using a vehicle and recorded WITHOUT the vehicle being stopped to the address listed in the vehicle registration system.

In the latter case, it is therefore essential that the holder of the vehicle registration certificate updates their address without delay should they change address, via the website https://immatriculation.ants.gouv.fr
We also recommend that you provide an email address when you register a new vehicle or update your vehicle registration certificate following a change of address.

PLEASE NOTE, in the event that the fine notice cannot be delivered by post, the proceedings will continue, meaning that the offender may be subject to enforced collection by the tax authorities at the increased rate, or even have the transfer of the vehicle registration certificate blocked, preventing the resale of the vehicle, and not being able to benefit from the reduced rate.
Furthermore, failure to update the vehicle registration certificate within one month of a change of address taking effect constitutes a criminal offence in France, which is itself punishable by a fourth-class fixed penalty.

Other benefits:

• no more risk of the letter-card being lost or stolen from your windscreen, and therefore less risk of incurring increased fines for this reason;
• you can check the status of your offence online via the official ANTAI website;
• a reduced fine if you pay it immediately by credit card to the French National Police or the Gendarmerie, or within 15 days using an online payment method such as the website www.amendes.gouv.fr or on a smartphone using the "amendes.gouv" application  (excluding parking offences, which do not qualify for a reduced rate);
